What are natural, not-insane ways to get ready for skin-baring season?

This is what Dr. Taz, from Prevention Magazine, Living Healthy Naturally has to say about a few key things we can do for ourselves to get ready for the warmer weather.  **Are my responses.

Dr. Tasneem Bhatia On Natural Ways To Get Ready For Summer

Ask Dr. Taz: How Can I Get Ready For Skin-Baring Season Without Going Nuts?

Dr. Tasneem Bhatia, MD
Q: What are natural, not-insane ways to get ready for skin-baring season?
A: This is the perfect time for all of us to shed our winter coats—the dry, flaky skin from bitter cold and indoor heat and the extra pounds we accrued as a result of winter's slower pace. Here's my personal spring detox regimen.
Clean out the fridge.
This is spring cleaning for your health. Get rid of all the bad stuff and load the produce bin with lots of brightly colored fruits and vegetables, picking at least five different kinds every week. Cook them, juice them, or eat them raw—it doesn't matter, as long as you get a minimum of five servings a day (though we're partial to these delicious, green drinks). To jump-start your spring detox, drink 7 ounces of fresh juice daily, and pick 3 days of the week to eat only fruits and veggies. This burst of antioxidants will flood your skin with oxygen, resulting in a healthy glow. The fiber from fresh produce helps clean out the colon, getting rid of all those winter excesses.

**Beginning on Sunday, I am beginning another journey, which I hope will be my last, to a healthy lifestyle.  2 nights a week I will be drinking my dinner.  Either a juicing or a smoothie, made with whole fruits and veggies.  This will be a wonderful way to introduce kale, beets, and many other new varieties of produce to my diet.  It will also allow my body a way to detox bit by bit.
Sweat.
Do whatever it takes to break a sweat every day—run, walk briskly, bike, do yoga. Sweating is the body's natural way of getting rid of impurities, and even 10 minutes a day activates that mechanism. If you can't exercise, then sit in a sauna or steam room or soak in a whirlpool.

**I am committing to 20 minutes 3 days a week to sweating.  Yes, I will be working with free dumbbells.  I have varying weights and will be able to mix it up and keep my body guessing about what exercises I will choose on any given day.  Not a big commitment, but a little goes a long way.
Scrub your arms and legs.
With a dry brush, use gentle strokes to slough off dead skin. Then apply a mixture of 1 cup coconut oil with ¼ cup sea salt or brown sugar (be sure to be careful—oil is slippery), and scrub it all off with a loofah (watch a tutorial video, here).

**I have used a dry skin brush for several years now and it is a simple way to exfoliate my skin.  To dry brush my entire body may take 1 full minute.  Dry skin brushing is also a terrific way encourage new skin cell growth and increase circulation.  I have never used the sugar oil scrub, but I think I may try this concoction out.

I can really relate to the picks Dr. Taz has chosen.  Simple, realistic goals that each one of us can achieve with a bit of determination and self Love.
Do you think you may try any of these tips?  If not how will you get ready for skin-baring season?

Today my blog All my lives now turns 1 year old.  It is an exciting day for me.

It's like my life. I begin with a certain plan and oftentimes I find that I've completely turned myself around and upside down.  It's the way my mind processes my thoughts and ideas. And it's okay.  My mind is constantly spinning and whirling, it never shuts down.

I have met so many wonderful, caring folks over this year and I look forward to meeting many more in the following years.  Thank you so very much for taking time out of your busy lives to read my blog.  I appreciate you!

Skinade ~ Drink your skin woes away ~ Giveaway

Next-generation Skincare

Skinade is a scientifically formulated collagen drink that works from the inside out.  It repairs, rebuilds and strengthens the collagen matrix below the skin's surface, boosts natural levels of hydration and reduces fine lines and wrinkles.

Better skin from within

Developed by UK scientists and manufactured in the UK, skinade contains only the highest quality ingredients with no artificial flavors or coloring and fewer than 35 calories.  The patent-pending formula uses hydrolysed marine collagen and essential micro-nutrients. With natural tasting peach and mangosteen flavors it is pleasant tasting and an easy addition to your daily skincare regime.

Skinade's ingredients work synergistically to achieve the best anti-ageing results for your skin.

The collagen is Skincade is processed to create a low molecular weight enabling rapid absorption and transportation to where it is needed.  The collagen fibres formed, strengthen the collagen matrix in the dermis.  Drinking skinade also triggers the body's own natural collagen by stimulating the proliferation of fibroblasts, the the cells responsible for new collagen regeneration reinforcing the collagen matrix.

Collagen improves skin elasticity by increasing the density of fibroblasts (the cells responsible for rebuilding connective tissue), and improves skin hydration and reduces fine lines and wrinkles.

This dual action makes Skincade a highly effective skincare solution.  Consumed on a daily basis, it effectively returns your body to a younger state of collagen production, resulting in a visibly more youthful appearance.

What results will you see?

These un-retouched 10 day before and after shots were taken by a satisfied salon owner.  The reduction of fine lines, pore size and smoothness is noticeable.

  • Between 2-4 weeks skin starts to appear firmer and fuller with a noticeable reduction in fine lines and wrinkles
  • After the 4-6 week skin-renewal cycle the improvements continue to build with greater skin elasticity and further reduction of fine lines and wrinkles.

Perfecting with BB Cream

I'll be the first to admit:  Uneven skin tone is one of my biggest concerns right now.  The smooth dewy skin of my youth seems out of reach.  No matter how many peels, scrubs and potions I use, I always have mild skin discoloration on my forehead and cheekbones.

I am fully aware that being a sun-worshiper for over 20 years is the culprit for these dark spots.  I use retin-a every other day and hydroquinone daily for a few months with breaks in between.  IPL  (intense pulse light) laser treatments are also part of the treatment plan. It's a work in progress.  I will continue to stay out of the sun, use sunscreen and continue my quest for a smoother more uniform skin tone.

One of the newest and best products I have found to help camouflage these discolorations, thanks to Birchbox is Marcelle BB Cream Golden Glow.  Available in a universally flattering shade,

this multitasking BB cream has 8 skin enhancing benefits.  Flecked with tiny, light-reflecting self-adjusting pigments, powerful antioxidants, aloe and chamomile does it all for your skin:

  1. Provides a healthy glow effect with just the right hint of illumination
  2. Evens out skin tone
  3. Offers immediate and long-term hydrating benefits
  4. Protects from premature aging and environmental stresses
  5. Promotes skin regeneration
  6. Soothes and calms
  7. Reduces the appearance of imperfections
  8. Controls shine
Perfect for those with sensitive skin, this beauty balm is hypo-allergenic, perfume and oil free.

I find that one pump gives enough coverage for me.  Using my fingers I smooth the beauty balm over my clean, moisturized skin making sure to blend thoroughly.  It's like a miracle, covering my imperfections quite nicely and without a heavy artificial look.
For $ 10 per month you can try Birchbox and begin to receive cutting edge product samples too.

My personal review:  Each character in this lively novel has personality that jumps off the written page. Most are likable, but a few are irritating, as in the real world.  A simple story about a single event and how it changes the lives of those involved.
If I had to choose only one word to describe this book it would be Growth.  From beginning to end, each main character takes something away from the other and a sense of calm is restored in each soul.  I enjoyed Sabrina's Window immensely.  I would classify this book in the Best of Summer Beach Reads.
