Monday's Motivation for Healthy Lifestyle

Welcome to Week 9 on my journey to a healthy lifestyle.

This weeks's quote is all about making choices.

Clean Eating

I wrote about smoothies last week and how effective they are in keeping me regular.  I have switched up the ingredients in my smoothies.  I am eliminating protein powder in my mid morning smoothies.  After much research I decided I didn't need the extra protein.  I am now using almond milk, a large handful of spinach, a small banana, and ground flax seed.  Two nights a week I am having a smoothie for dinner.  In this smoothie I am using protein powder since it is replacing the protein in my dinner.  I attached a link below that states the information quite succinctly.

This week's new meal is

Again another simple meal to put together in 30 minutes or less.  Loaded with healthy ingredients such as ground turkey along with broccoli slaw or traditional coleslaw mix. I'll be using lower sodium soy sauce in my recipe.  We cannot wait to try this new recipe out.  Let me know if you've tried this recipe or one like it.

Workouts

For some reason or another I have been having an extremely difficult time motivating myself to get out of bed each morning.  When the alarm goes off at 6 a.m. I am usually already awake and I don't fall back asleep.  I'm just laying in bed listening to my Love get ready for work.  I have got to break out of this rut!!!

Like last week I managed two upper and lower body strength/weight workouts.  An outdoor hilly walk rounded out the week.  I have to give myself credit for completing these three workouts.  I will continue to strive for the elusive five workouts.  I know I'll get there one day at a time.

Please share your motivating ideas on getting out of bed in the morning.  I'd love hear them.

  2. My only motivation for getting out of bed in the (dark) morning is that if I don't check to see if my daughter is up, she will be late to school and I'll have to deal with that mess. I do try to get up quickly; the longer I lie there the harder it is to get up!

    1. Having kids that had to go to school always made it mandatory to get up and make sure they were ready for school. Now that they are grown I don't have to worry about that. Hmmmm...I need to get up for the dog, the cat, for ME!!!

  7. I've been wanting to swap my lunches for smoothies, but I feel overwhelmed when looking at protein powders! After reading that little blurb about why adding protein powder probably isn't necessary, I feel confident to make the switch! Thanks for the info! :)

    1. You're welcome Alison. I did a lot of research about this and I realized I truly didn't need the additional protein all the time. It usually tastes "yucky" anyway.

  8. Protein powder has never agreed with me, it makes me have nasty heartburn :) I think a lot of people over do it on the protein powder, it sounds like you are doing a great job with the smoothies. I eat greek yogurt smoothies all the time and love them! You're doing great with your weightloss!

    1. Thanks Ann. The weight is coming off slowly, but I'm happy about that. I'm really after a lifestyle change. So far so good. I've fallen off the wagon here and there, but I jump right back on.
